Bob is sitting at our computer, staring dumbly at the screen and wondering how he'll ever wrap a story around two months of road travel through 18 states! We have grand plans to visit friends and see parts of the USA we've not seen before. Please join us on the ride!
Glad to see that you two had a good taste of Texas before heading into Okie-homa. Amarillo's image suffered a lot from that "rear-view mirror" country song. Most people are surprised once they see the place first-hand.
ReplyDeleteThe other thang is that people take the view that every Texan is a PITA. I can explain that ... it has to do with the unusual DNA carried by true Texans; you know, the Irish and Scottish descendants that populate the small towns and ranches of the Lone Star State. Here's the deal -
The popular view is that human DNA always takes the form of a regular spiral-helix; not so for Texans.
The DNA of true Texans takes the ornate form that's depicted by the embroidery seen on the yoke of cowboy shirts and also depicted by the stitchery on fancy cowboy boots. Yes, folks do say that Texans are a bit twisted ... now y' know why.
About Texas long-horned steers ... they were brought back from near extinction by King's Ranch long ago. A breeding pair were found in Montana and brought to the ranch ... the cow was called Bathtub Bertha due to her huge curved horns that almost met together in front of her head. Now all Texas long-horns are descendants of that breeding pair ... and are kept merely as trophy cattle on large ranches. When I was a boy long-horns were the major beef cattle ... we ate 'em. Tasty too.
